Demi Moore is shedding light on how her relationship with ex-husband Bruce Willis and their kids evolved into a different kind of family after their divorce more than two decades ago.

Moore, who was married to Bruce for 13 years before their split in 2000, told Variety on Thursday, February 7, that the former couple will always be close.

“We will always be a family, just in a different form,” Moore, 62, told the outlet. “For me, there was never a question. I show up because that’s what you do for the people you love.”

Moore and Bruce, 69, share three daughters together: Rumer, 36, Scout, 33 and Tallulah, 31. Willis also shares two daughters, Mabel, 12, and Evelyn, 10, with wife Emma Heming. The family has rallied together to support the Die Hard star as he continues to battle aphasia and frontotemporal dementia.

According to Variety, Moore visits Bruce weekly in order to support him, their daughters as well as Willis and Heming’s kids.

“I hope it’s encouraging for others to see that there’s a different way to do things. There is life after divorce. There is a way to co-parent with love,” she told the outlet.

Earlier this week, Rumer shared her gratitude over the way her mom and dad navigated coparenting after they called time on their marriage.

“I think the thing I’m most grateful for is that even when they split up, they created such a beautiful foundation of prioritizing my sisters and I, that I never felt like I had to choose or like, they never played against each other,” she said during an appearance on British talk show, Loose Women. “We were a family, and we still are very much a family no matter what.”

Referencing her own split with Derek Richard Thomas, with whom she shares 1-year-old daughter Louetta. Rumer said her parents have set a great example to follow as she tackles a similar scenario.

She continued: “And not only did I feel like that has set me up in my life to have such a beautiful foundation of my own family, but now, as I’m working through coparenting as well, I feel deep gratitude for the example they’ve set.”

During the TV appearance, Rumer also gave an update on her dad, sharing that he was “doing great.”

“I think, obviously as many people in California, the thing we’re all kind of most scared of dealing with is just the fires and wanting to make sure everything is OK,” she added. “Because my family, we’re all so close, I think what’s so beautiful is the way that we rally around each other, [it’s] so lovely, because we really are a unit.”

The Sixth Sense actor’s family shared in 2022 that Bruce had been diagnosed with aphasia, a disorder that affects how a person is able to communicate. In 2023, the family announced that Bruce’s aphasia had progressed to frontotemporal dementia (FTD).

According to Mayo Clinic, frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is an “umbrella term for a group of brain diseases that mainly affect the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain” — areas that are “associated with personality, behavior and language.”
