A man accused of seriously injuring his girlfriend and causing a police standoff appeared in court Wednesday afternoon.
Richard Bock, 22, had his first appearance in Penobscot County Superior Court. He is accused of three felony counts of aggravated assault, Class B; one felony count of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, Class B; and one misdemeanor count of criminal restraint, Class D, after he allegedly created a police standoff.
He is also accused of violating his conditions of release and faces a probation revocation, as well as a bail revocation in other cases.
Bock did not enter a plea during the hearing, which is standard for felony charges. The case will be presented to a grand jury.
Bock, who police said is homeless, allegedly assaulted the woman multiple times, including with a gun, on Monday in Brewer, police said. She was held against her will but was able to escape. She was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
The woman in the case has allegedly admitted to shooting at Bock, lawyer of the day David Soondar said.
The Bangor Daily News does not typically name victims of domestic violence without their consent.
Police found Bock at a home on Riverview Terrace and sent tactical teams because Bock had a history of violence and they believed he had a gun, Brewer police said.
Bock eventually responded to police after ignoring earlier attempts to communicate and after police breached the front door. He then left the home and was arrested.
He has two active sets of bail conditions and was taken to the Penobscot County Jail. Bock is being held without bail pending a hearing for probation revocation Feb. 20 and a bail motion hearing Feb. 28.
Bock was previously convicted of domestic violence assault and domestic violence criminal threatening in 2023.
