I think cutting the funding to USAID as well as removing the administration’s ability to function is one of the most ignorant decisions the Trump administration has made. We do not live in a world that allows us to disconnect our welfare from that of other nations and countries. Diseases and starvation do not respect borders, and neither do the wars that are caused by their existence.
This administrative action affects the health, wellbeing and lives of millions of people across the globe. It hinders research, communication between countries and administrations and I believe it will only lead to tremendous suffering and widespread death. We no longer live in a world like that of the 1700s and 1800s where disasters and disease were isolated.
How is this country going to communicate with the agencies of other countries when the means of sharing has been eliminated?
And what was the purpose of such an enormous action? Who benefits? I suspect the beneficiaries will not be the ordinary citizens of this country.
Congress needs to do what it was designed for: Block this action and set up a rational means of evaluating the program.
This is a shameful act.
