It’s shaping up to be a snowy week for Maine.
Monday’s snow will taper off later this morning only to return after sundown and linger into Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service office in Caribou.
The storm is being felt all across Maine, which prompted schools from every corner to delay opening while crews clear the roads.
By the time the snow wraps up Tuesday morning, Greater Bangor is expected to see at least 2-3 inches of fresh powder, with similar amounts expected in Ellsworth, Bar Harbor and Calais, the weather service station reported.
That accumulation falls off along the Down East coast, where up to 1-2 inches are forecast from Machias to Eastport.
Accumulation picks up in the heart of the state, with 6-8 inches expected in the Millinocket area and even more in Baxter State Park.
Going north, up to 4-6 inches are currently forecast to fall over a wide area ranging from Houlton up to Van Buren in the St. John Valley. Forecasters predict 3-4 inches for the Fort Kent area.
We’ll get a break from the snow Wednesday, but the forecast calls for potentially more powder Thursday and again this weekend.
