Here’s what Maine’s Jan. 6 rioters said after being pardoned by President Donald Trump. His executive order instructed the Bureau of Prisons and Justice Department to immediately release all Jan. 6 inmates while halting any pending cases.
In a surprise decision, Janet Mills removed two juvenile justice advisers. The governor did not respond to questions about why she didn’t reappoint them.
The University of Maine expects its new criminal justice major to have “immediate appeal.” The addition, starting this fall at the Orono campus, comes in response to a need for experts and practitioners in the diverse field.

MAINE TOWN OF THE WEEK
EDDINGTON: This town just a few miles down Route 9 from Brewer is named for Jonathan Eddy, a Nova Scotia native and military leader who was a staunch supporter of the rebels during the American Revolution, even going so far as to try to convince his home province to secede from Britain alongside the original 13 colonies. Today, the town is one of a number of bedroom communities in the Bangor region, though with the Interstate 395 extension due to open this year, we may see a demographic shift there in the years to come.
