A southern Maine man who allegedly made domestic violence threats and said he would bring a gun to a local day care was arrested after a stand-off with police on Wednesday.
Deputies from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office were called to 127 Shaker Road in Gray at 9:10 a.m. to find a man who was wanted by Gorham police on a charge of felony domestic violence terrorizing, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
The man they were seeking, Landen Rankin, 29, of Gray, had allegedly made threats to go to a day care in Gorham and mentioned bringing a firearm with him.
Police learned that Rankin might still be at his home and went there, where they found him in his driveway with his vehicle running. According to the sheriff’s office, Rankin ran into the home and refused to come out.
Because the stand-off was happening within 1,000 feet of the SAD 15 schools, the schools were put into lock down, a sheriff’s deputy was assigned security of the school property, and residents in the area received a Code Red alert to shelter in place, according to the sheriff’s office.
After further negotiations, Rankin came out of the home at 11:14 a.m. and was taken into custody without incident. He was turned over to Gorham police and brought to the Cumberland County Jail, the sheriff’s office said.
