A man allegedly broke into more than 20 vehicles over the course of a night in Brunswick.

Vladimir Zintchenko, 50, was charged with burglary, burglary of a motor vehicle, theft by unauthorized taking and violating conditions of release, according to the Brunswick Police Department.

A resident of McKeen Street called police about 2:26 a.m. Monday after a cellphone app alerted them that someone tried to open their car door. When police arrived, officers discovered footprints leading to vehicles in several driveways, Brunswick police said Tuesday morning.

Officers followed the footprints through many yards and discovered whoever made the footprints also entered someone’s garage.

When the trail brought them to Columbia Avenue, officers found Zintchenko hiding behind a tree, according to police.

Zintchenko allegedly broke into more than 20 vehicles throughout the night. Officers recovered some stolen property.

He is being held at the Cumberland County Jail in Portland without bail due to pending charges in the Forest City.

Zintchenko is scheduled to appear in Cumberland County Superior Court on March 18.
