House Democrats have named their members to serve on the DOGE Subcommittee on Oversight, signaling the minority party is ready to play ball on a Republican-led effort.
Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-N.M.) will serve as the ranking member. She will be joined by D.C. Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton and Reps. Stephen Lynch of Massachusetts and Robert Garcia of California, along with Texas Reps. Greg Casar and Jasmine Crockett. The ranking member of the full Oversight and Government Reform, Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.), will be permitted to sit on the subcommittee in an ex officio capacity.
Two people familiar with the appointments confirmed the full Democratic roster on Tuesday evening, before the official announcement had been released.
Stansbury’s elevation to leadership of the DOGE subcommittee comes after she lost a race against Rep. Jared Huffman (D-Calif.) to be ranking member of the House Natural Resources Committee.
In a statement, Stansbury, a former staffer with the White House Office of Management and Budget, emphasized her enthusiasm for bipartisan solutions for government efficiency but said lawmakers must protect important government programs from drastic spending cuts.
“I know what good government looks like and am not afraid to fight for it,” she said in a statement. “At the same time, I am prepared to fight to protect the vital programs, services, and employees that keep our communities safe and the economy running.”
Republicans announced their DOGE subcommittee assignments earlier in the day Tuesday. They’ll be led on their side of the aisle by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and members include GOP Reps. William Timmons of South Carolina, Brian Jack of Georgia, Tim Burchett of Tennessee and Eric Burlison of Missouri, as well as more Texans: Reps. Pat Fallon, Brandon Gill and Michael Cloud.
The subcommittee will partner with Elon Musk’s commission to cut government spending, formally called the Department of Government Efficiency.
