A man who was using a propane torch to thaw a commercial truck’s frozen water tank was killed in an explosion Friday afternoon in Molunkus.
The Maine State Fire Marshals Office is investigating the blast, which happened at 118 Aroostook Road in Molunkus.
Property owner Kerry Holmes, 66, died in the explosion.
Fire investigators were called to the scene at about 3 p.m. Friday, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release.
“At some point, the torch flame went out and collected in and around the tank,” according to Moss.
A second propane torch that was being used is suspected to have ignited the explosion.
