Ellsworth has hired a new deputy manager, re-creating a position that has not been filled since 2020.
Sara Devlin, who currently serves as executive director of Bangor Area Comprehensive Transportation System, is expected to start in her new post on Feb. 10.
Devlin, who has a master’s degree in community planning and development, previously worked for nearly a decade at the Maine Turnpike Authority as government relations liaison, before she took a job as director of the Metropolitan Planning Organization at the Greater Portland Council of Governments. She has worked for BACTS for the past five years.
Devlin, who has long had family ties to Ellsworth, is expected to work with City Manager Charlie Pearce and other staff “to establish a strong foundation for growth, focusing on sustainable and reliable infrastructure, alongside policies that preserve Ellsworth’s character while promoting development to key areas of this growing community,” city officials said in a prepared statement.
Ellsworth has had a deputy city manager in the recent past, but not since 2020, when it was most recently filled by Tammy Mote. Mote, who now serves as an elected Ellsworth city councilor, worked for the city for nearly 20 years before leaving for a private sector job nearly five years ago.
The city did not seek to refill the deputy city manager job during the tenure of former City Manager Glenn Moshier, who held the city’s top administrative post from the fall of 2020 until March of last year.
More than 200 people applied for the deputy city manager position, according to city officials. Information about what Devlin’s salary will be in her new post was not immediately available Friday morning.
