Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan is recovering from surgery after he was stabbed multiple times in a suspected home invasion at his Mumbai home.
The popular actor, 54, suffered at least six stab wounds, including one near his spine, during what his team described as an attempted robbery in the Bandra area of Mumbai early Thursday, January 16, per the ANI news agency.
Dr. Nitin Dange of the Lilavati Hospital, where Khan is being treated, told reporters that the actor “sustained a major injury to the thoracic spinal cord due to a lodged knife in the spine,” reported the BBC.
“A surgery was performed to remove the knife and repair leaking spinal fluid. Two other deep wounds on his left hand and one other on his neck were repaired by the plastic surgery team,” Dange added.

Khan’s team told ANI in a statement, “Saif Ali Khan has come out of surgery and is out of danger. He is currently in recovery and the doctors are monitoring his progress. All family members are safe and the police is investigating the incident.”
“We would like to thank Dr. Niraj Uttamani, Dr. Nitin Dange, Dr. Leena Jain and the team at Lilavati Hospital. Thank you to all his fans and well-wishers for their prayers and thoughts during this time,” the statement added.
Mumbai’s deputy police commissioner Dixit Gedam said that the attack is under investigation and a city-wide manhunt is in progress.
“One of the accused has been identified, but is yet to be caught and has been absconding,” Gedam said, per Sky News. “He entered the house from a fire escape and got entry to the stairs. We are also looking at others involved in the incident. Our police teams are now across the city of Mumbai and have also gone beyond the city’s boundaries.”

Khan is married to fellow Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor. The couple share two children, Taimur, 8, and Jeh, 4.
“There was an attempted burglary in Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan’s residence last night. Saif had an injury on his arm for which he is in the hospital, undergoing a procedure. The rest of the family is doing fine. We request media and fans to be patient and not speculate any further as the Police is already doing their due investigations,” Kapoor’s team said, per the Indian Express.
