A Los Angeles resident was overjoyed when he was reunited with his dog who was hiding in the rubble after surviving the wildfires.

Casey Colvin returned to the site of his home in the area affected by the Palisades fire five days after it broke out to continue searching for his dog, Oreo.

His home was badly damaged and it was feared Oreo was not alive.

But as Mr Colvin called out from the edge of his property, Oreo came running towards him in an emotional moment captured by a film crew from Sky News’ partner network, NBC News.

Mr Colvin scooped up Oreo as he yelled: “Oh my god, you’re alive! You’re alive! Thank you, God.”

He fist-pumped the air and shouted for joy in the road and promised to “never let him go”.

Firefighters had managed to rescue Mr Colvin’s other dog, Tika Tika Tika – but Oreo had run off as the wildfires swept through the area.

LA fires latest – at least 24 killed

Tika Tika Tika was at the scene with Mr Colvin as the remarkable reunion unfolded.

Firefighters are still tackling blazes that have burned through 40,000 acres since last Tuesday.
