Prime Healthcare Foundation is taking over Central Maine Healthcare’s operations.
Central Maine Healthcare facilities, including Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, will retain their names and current leadership, according to a joint Wednesday news release from the health care providers.
Prime Healthcare Foundation, a nonprofit organization based in Ontario, California, was founded in 2006 and operates 14 hospitals in six states.
“As part of Prime Healthcare Foundation, we will now have the capability and the resources to attract and retain top talent, improve quality and access to care, and address unmet healthcare needs across Central Maine,” Central Maine Healthcare CEO Steve Littleson said in a statement.
Current Central Maine Healthcare employees will have the option to retain their positions, and provider and physician contracts will be honored under the new owners, according to the release. Prime Healthcare Foundation also intends to invest $150 million in facility improvements, and will continue to offer charity services and community outreach programs previously provided by the health care organization.
In addition to Central Maine Medical Center, the health organization operates Bridgton Hospital, Rumford Hospital and Topsham Care Center, along with other primary and specialty care and clinical services.
