KeyBank announces 2024 Foundation grants and charitable donations to Maine nonprofits

Donations total $600,000 for organizations across the state of Maine

PORTLAND – KeyBank announces the list of charitable sponsorships and KeyBank Foundation grants made in 2024 to numerous nonprofit organizations in Maine. The gifts and grants focus support to address homelessness, food insecurity, financial literacy, preventative healthcare, and more. KeyBank Foundation grants total $480,000 in commitments and are part of the bank’s philanthropic and strategic investments targeted toward education, workforce development, and safe, vital neighborhoods. An additional $120,000 in charitable sponsorships were made to local nonprofit partners in alignment with the bank’s community support efforts. 

“KeyBank is deeply committed to helping our communities thrive, and we are proud to support organizations in Maine that work tirelessly to create positive, lasting change,” said KeyBank Maine Market President Tony DiSotto. “these grants and donations represent our dedication to addressing critical needs, enhancing economic stability, and fostering equitable growth across the state.” 

Grants made through KeyBank Foundation, the nonprofit charitable foundation funded by KeyCorp., advance the Foundation’s mission through three funding priorities – neighbors, education, and workforce – and through community service.  Foundation grants made in the Maine market in 2024 were:

  • Olympia Snowe Women’s Leadership Institute to support its “My Values,” “My Voice” and “My Vision” program at Lewiston High School.
  • Tree Street Youth Inc. for their Motivating Adolescence Pursuing Leadership Experiences providing social-emotional development, academic success, leadership skills, workforce development and college/career prep for at-risk teens and young adults.
  • Trinity Jubilee Center Inc. to support The Day Shelter and Resource Center, a client-directed and comprehensive hub for homeless, housing insecure, and low-income residents of Lewiston-Auburn.
  • Portland Housing Services Corporation to provide financial support for post-secondary education to low-income subsidized housing residents through its Portland Housing Scholarship Fund.
  • Boys and Girls Club of Greater Portland to support and invigorate their Support for Bridge to Success Program providing dedicated opportunities for junior and high school age youth to intensify their studies, develop their passions, and build essential skills.
  • Give It. Get It to support its Digital Inclusion and Equity Sponsorship Fund, which provides refurbished personal computers and technical training in an effort to help people break the cycle of poverty, underemployment, and dependence on social services through inclusion in digital community spaces and overall Digital Equity.
  • Bangor Homeless Shelter for emergency shelter and supportive services to people who are homeless or at risk and to advocate for collaborative, locally driven solutions to end homelessness.
  • Mercy Hospital/McAuley Residence supporting Partnering for Brighter Futures: McAuley Residence workforce training offering resident women the opportunity to provide stable and brighter futures for their families. 
  • Portland Trails for the Healthier Neighborhoods for All (HNFA) program, which aims to improve the health of Portland’s neighborhoods, with a focus on low-income, BIPOC, and immigrant residents, by increasing awareness and usage of local trails and outdoor spaces.
  • ProsperityME supporting Immigrant Economic Empowerment will provide financial literacy and education to asylum seekers, refugees, and immigrants in Maine.
  • Community Dental supporting the Access to Oral Healthcare Program providing accessible oral healthcare for the low-income families.
  • Coastal Enterprises Inc. supporting the Women’s Business Center BIPOC Navigator working to empower female entrepreneurs, particularly those from racial, ethnic, and socially diverse backgrounds, by providing comprehensive support that addresses barriers in entrepreneurship.
  • Cultivating Communities to support Expanding Economic Security and Fresh Food Access Through Mainers Feeding Mainers Partnership empowering people through food by providing land access, farmer training, and market support to farm families from immigrant, refugee, and asylum-seeking families backgrounds and supporting local community food security through nutrition programs and partnerships.

KeyBank also announced a three-year, $300,000 Community Impact grant from KeyBank Foundation earlier this year to Preble Street.  The multi-year commitment will support the development of a comprehensive, intensive Site-Based Housing First Training and Technical Assistance program and the expansion of Preble Street’s successful, 24-hour service model to serve people experiencing chronic homelessness.

Charitable sponsorships made by KeyBank to local nonprofit partners include:

  • Bridgton 4 on the Fourth Road Race – supporting the town’s largest, oldest event open to all.
  • Greater Portland Immigrant Welcome Center to support instruction in digital technology, financial literacy and online marketing as part of a comprehensive training and technical assistance program to stimulate new business startups led by immigrant women.
  • Furniture Friends to support their furniture donation program to people in need throughout Greater Portland. 
  • Spurwink to help them provide behavioral health care, substance use disorder services and support services for people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds, and their families.
  • Junior Achievement Maine – to support the Titan Experience, where high school students take part in interactive lessons as an introduction to all aspects of running a business.
  • Maine Inside Out supporting their theater programs about social change.
  • The Mitchell Institute in support of its goal of increasing educational opportunity for Maine students.
  • Portland Squash to support Rally Portland after school program that serves middle and HS students from all Portland neighborhoods.
  • Presque Isle Community Recreation to support its Nordic Heritage Outdoor Center 
  • Portland Art Museum for its Art for All Initiative, prioritizing inclusivity and impact welcoming all members of community serving all ages population or racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, and linguistic diversity.
  • Sweetser SOLD ON Kids Auction to support the organization’s statewide network of community-based mental health, recovery, and educational services.
  • Portland Housing to support the Portland Housing Scholarship Fund.
  •  SCORE Maine for its small business workshop and webinar programs serving low-income business start-ups and current small business owners.
  • Students Empowered to End Dependence (SEED) for its Substance Use Disorder Education in Maine Schools helping to dramatically reduce substance use among Maine students by engaging them in compelling learning opportunities and messaging campaigns.
  • United Way Women United supporting education, financial stability, and health of single mothers and their children in Southern Maine.
  • Falmouth Land Trust supporting its partnership with Cultivating Community which aims to improved job skills for New Americans while restoring Hurricane Valley Farm.
  • Alfond Youth Center supporting economic equity by ensuring that rural, economically- disadvantaged youth have the same opportunities to realize their potential as youth across the state.
  • Root Cellar in support of The Welcome Project addressing the needs of the growing number of asylum seekers, refugees and other immigrant communities.
  • Aroostook Child Care supporting this innovative new Childcare Resource Center aimed at addressing the childcare crisis here in Aroostook County, in an effort to stabilize and grow our workforce.
