With the holidays over, now is the time for Bangor residents to throw away their Christmas trees and other holiday waste.
Residents can bring their natural Christmas trees to the public works department’s organic waste yard at 530 Maine Ave. in Bangor beginning on Monday, Jan. 6. The site will be open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to sunset, according to a post on the city’s Facebook page.
Trees should have all decorations and lights removed before throwing them away or putting them at the curb for roadside collection.
Wreaths, whether real or fake, can’t be disposed of at the organic waste yard.
The city’s public works department will also accept any excess holiday waste that Bangor residents can’t fit in their roadside trash bin, the city’s post reads. Residents can drop theirs off at the organic waste yard from Jan. 6 through Jan. 11 from 7 a.m. to sunset. There will be a dumpster for wrapping paper, bows, foam, plastic and both natural and fake wreaths.
There will be a separate dumpster for recycling-only cardboard.
Residents should continue to dispose of typical household waste in roadside bins.
