Thomas Doherty has some ideas for Leo’s story line if Tell Me Lies gets renewed for a third season.
“Maybe Leo isn’t all that he seems,” Doherty, 29, told Us Weekly exclusively while celebrating the launch of The Glenlivet tartan at The Corner Store in New York City on Monday, December 9. “There is a lot to do with him.”
Doherty made his Tell Me Lies debut as Leo in September when the show’s second season premiered via Hulu. Leo starts dating Lucy (Grace Van Patten) following her breakup from Stephen (Jackson White) — and inadvertently causes some drama when Stephen provokes him enough to start a physical fight.
Fans of the show are still Team Leo, however, with some referring to him as one of the only characters with “green flags” on the show — something Doherty “absolutely” agrees with.
“I wasn’t actually too surprised about the fans’ reaction to my character,” Doherty told Us. “After season 1, Leo just slotted into that gap. It made sense. What did surprise me was all the outpouring of love. It’s really kind of overwhelming at times.”

Doherty went on to share a recent Tell Me Lies fan experience with Us.
“Someone jumped out of an Uber in the middle of the street,” he said. “I’ve never experienced stuff like that before. It was amazing.”
Along with acting, Doherty has cemented himself in Hollywood as a fashion icon, making him the perfect person to bring The Glenlivet tartan to America. The Scottish star showed off his heritage during the Speyside Meets Stateside celebration at The Corner Store — and some of his family members were also in attendance. (He also curated a drink for the brand called The Tartan Tini.)

“My dad is here. He flew over from Scotland with his friend,” the actor shared, joking that the duo were “upstaging” him with their own kilts.
Doherty told Us that having his family’s support is an “amazing” feeling. “It’s such an exciting night. Honestly, to be with The Glenlivet is such an honor. I grew up with The Glenlivet my whole life,” Doherty gushed. “It’s a whiskey that my uncle in particular really drinks. So, it’s such an association of home.”
Doherty said that it’s “really special” to be debuting The Glenlivet tartan stateside for the first time, adding, “To bring my culture to New York … feels like a great honor.”
