NEWRY — “When you consider the crucial benefits Maine Adaptive offers to so many people, it’s such a point of pride for Norway Savings to be considered a key sponsor.”

The words of Dan Walsh, president and CEO of Norway Savings Bank, accurately describe the genuine and meaningful difference Maine Adaptive plays in the lives of those who enjoy its wide range of programs and services. Maine Adaptive Sports & Recreation has offered adaptive sports, inclusion, and joy to thousands since its inception in 1982. In the last year, nearly 300 Maine Adaptive volunteers have provided more than 2,800 lessons in alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, cycling, golf, tennis, pickleball, mountain biking, climbing, and paddling.

Now in its 37th year, the Maine Adaptive Ski-A-Thon, the organization’s biggest annual fundraiser, is set for Jan. 1 through a final celebration at Sunday River Ski Resort on March 23, 2025.

“Participants have a minimum fundraising goal of $250 and can create their own personalized social media or webpage to track their efforts and encourage support,” said Amy Bannon, managing director of advancement for Maine Adaptive. “The final celebration on March 23 includes fun games, challenges, a raffle, food, and much more. It’s one of our favorite events of the year and brings together students, volunteers, and supporters for a day of joy and accomplishment.”

“Whether skiing or riding, people of all abilities come together to make a difference, and the funds raised directly support the purchase of our adaptive equipment, program development, and instruction for children, adults, and veterans with disabilities,” said Enock Glidden, development coordinator for Maine Adaptive. “Thanks to all of the support, we’re able to keep our programs cost-free for those who need our services most.”

Norway Savings Bank has donated $2,500 to the Ski-A-Thon, continuing its long, proud support of Maine Adaptive.

“NSB’s ongoing support fuels not just our students’ passion but also our ability to continue providing these life-changing opportunities,” said Glidden. “NSB has already made such a meaningful difference in the lives of so many, and we hope to build on that success together in 2025.”

“My gratitude for these contributions cannot be measured,” said Paul Hogan, president of the Maine Adaptive Board of Directors. “We believe that having access to and participating in recreational sports is integral to a well-rounded life for every person, and we are so grateful to be able to continue providing these life-changing opportunities.”
