Weekend in Maine will be cold and snowy

Cold temperatures continue through the weekend, and snow is likely for much of Maine on Sunday.

Next week will bring a chance of heavy rain or wintry precipitation.

Saturday will be chilly with a mix of sun and clouds, breezy winds, and highs in the 20s or low 30s.

A round of light snow is likely after midnight Saturday night through Sunday morning. Two inches or less is expected for most of Maine, with some slightly higher totals in the mountains and towards the midcoast.

Sunday afternoon will be above freezing and snow will end, so road conditions will improve.

Next week brings a complex and potentially messy forecast. Most of Monday will likely be quiet, but a storm will move in Monday night. This will likely bring a mix of wintry precipitation to much of the state, though it may rain on the coast.

On Tuesday, roads may be slick.

A much more potent storm will arrive midweek with heavy rain possible Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday night.

While it largely looks like a soaking rain for most of the state, trends have been colder and winter precipitation could be a part of this forecast as well.
