Alec Baldwin Continues to ‘Profit’ From Halyna Hutchins Death, Mom Claims

Late cinematographer Halyna Hutchins’ mom, Olga Solovey, has no plans to attend the Rust movie premiere in the wake of her daughter’s death.

“It was always my hope to meet my daughter in Poland to watch her work come alive on screen,” Solovey told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement on Tuesday, November 19. “Unfortunately, that was ripped away from me when Alec Baldwin discharged his gun and killed my daughter.”

Solovey went on to say that Baldwin, 66, “continues to increase my pain” regarding Hutchins’ tragic passing in October 2021. Solovey claimed that the actor refuses to apologize or “take responsibility” for her daughter’s death.

“Instead, he seeks to unjustly profit from his killing of my daughter,” her statement concluded. “That is the reason why I refuse to attend the festival for the promotion of Rust, especially now when there is still no justice for my daughter.”

Rust is set to hold its world premiere at the Camerimage International Film Festival, which is scheduled to take place in Toruń, Poland, from November 16 to November 23. Hutchins will be honored at the event three years after her on-set death.

Baldwin was holding a gun that misfired on the Rust set in New Mexico, fatally wounding Hutchins at age 42. The movie’s director, Joel Souza, was injured by the bullet, which narrowly missed his lung.

Baldwin was initially charged with involuntary manslaughter in January 2023. By April of that year, the case was dismissed after Baldwin pleaded not guilty. Us Weekly confirmed this past January that Baldwin had been indicted for involuntary manslaughter a second time and pleaded not guilty. The film’s star has maintained his innocence throughout the entire ordeal.

Judge Denies Alec Baldwin’s Request to Dismiss Manslaughter Indictment

The case against Baldwin was dismissed in July by First Judicial District Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer in a Santa Fe, New Mexico, courthouse. The judge agreed with claims made by Baldwin’s lawyers that the prosecution hid evidence that might have been linked to the shooting. (The case was dismissed with prejudice, meaning a case against Baldwin cannot be filed again.)

“There is no way for the court to right this wrong,” the judge stated at the time. “The sanction of dismissal is the only warranted remedy.”

While Baldwin’s case was dismissed, the movie’s armorer, Hannah Guttierez-Reed, is currently serving an 18-month prison sentence for her involvement in Hutchins’ death. She was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in March. Guttierez-Reed sought a new trial after Baldwin’s dismissal, but her motion was denied in September.
