Margot Robbie Used Titanic Soundtrack to Cry in a Scene — and Then Leo and Kate Passed Her 0198

Margot Robbie likes to use the Titanic soundtrack for inspiration, but she never imagined both Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet would witness it.

“I can even just hear the theme music of Titanic, and I’ll be bawling,” Robbie, 34, said in an upcoming episode of “Talking Pictures: A Movie Memories Podcast” which will drop on Tuesday, November 26, according to Variety. “And so that’s what I do on set if I need to cry in a scene.”

Robbie recalled a particular time when she decided to proceed with her go-to method to produce natural tears, which led to a “surreal” experience involving both Titanic stars.

“On Wolf of Wall Street, there was the big, crazy scene after I ask for a divorce and stuff. And Kate Winslet came to visit set, to visit Leo that day,” Robbie explained. “I was in the room next to them, listening to the Titanic soundtrack trying to stay in sad, teary mode. And then I saw Kate Winslet and Leo walk past. It was very surreal.”

Kate Winslet Says ‘Titanic’ Kiss With Leonardo DiCaprio Was ‘Such a Mess’

DiCaprio, 50, and Winslet, 49, starred in 1997’s Titanic and have remained close friends since. The movie not only was a box office success but earned critical acclaim. The romantic drama won 11 Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director. While Robbie didn’t share which specific song brought her to tears, the most recognizable tune is “My Heart Will Go On,” which was performed by Celine Dion. (The ballad also won the Academy Award for Best Original Song.)

Nearly two decades later, Robbie costarred in The Wolf of Wall Street alongside DiCaprio. Her portrayal of Naomi Lapaglia in the 2013 Martin Scorsese black comedy was a breakout role before going on to star in blockbusters like Suicide Squad, Barbie and more.

While Robbie didn’t divulge how DiCaprio and Winslet reacted to her method of getting into character, Winslet has been candid about how the movie’s power anthem makes her feel “like throwing up.”

Kate Winslet Spills Surprising Details About ‘Titanic’ Door Scene

“No, I shouldn’t say that. No, actually, I do feel like throwing up,” she quipped in a 2012 interview with MTV News, per Glamour. “I wish I could say, ‘Oh listen, everybody! It’s the Celine Dion song!’ But I don’t. I just have to sit there, you know, kind of straight-faced with a massive internal eye roll.”

Winslet added that the idea of everyone wanting her to sing along to “My Heart Will Go Own” had gotten old.

“I did a talk show recently in Italy and they actually had a live pianist who started gently playing the theme song,” she reflected. “I was not even gently, rather severely, urged to go and sing it as though I had in fact sung it myself in the first place. It was like, ‘No! I’m not going to do that.’ They’re like, ‘Oh no, come on, it will be funny.’ No, it won’t be funny. At all. And I’m not going to.”
