A slowdown in the U.S. solar energy market has forced the Maine-based developer ReVision Energy to lay off about 8 percent of its workers, according to company officials.

That would translate to approximately 40 lay-offs, based on the 484 employees that ReVision reported having in 2023. The company did not immediately confirm the exact number of workers who lost their jobs or which of its locations were affected.

Greg Stewart, who manages operations at ReVision’s Montville office, confirmed the layoffs.

“We’ve had layoffs in large part because in 2024, the U.S. solar market faced a big slowdown,” Stewart said.

Founded around 2008, ReVision now has offices in Montville and South Portland, as well as in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. It installs solar arrays, heat pumps, backup batteries and water heaters for residential, commercial and municipal customers, according to its website.

Both domestic and international factors have contributed to the solar industry’s slowdown, according to Stewart. He said that the company has faced regulations that have slowed down the approval of its construction projects, but declined to provide specifics.

ReVision executives did not respond to requests for more information.
