A tower block has been evacuated, a railway line closed, and a bomb squad called after police discovered a suspicious item during an investigation.
Officers raised the alarm on Monday afternoon while searching a property in Dalmuir’s Overtoun Court, off Dunswin Avenue, as part of an ongoing probe.
Police Scotland called for an explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team over the “suspect item” and have evacuated the block of flats and neighbouring properties as a “precaution”.
A force spokesperson added: “Members of the public are asked to avoid the area.”
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said it was alerted at around 1.18pm and mobilised four fire appliances and one high-reach vehicle.
A spokesperson added: “There are no reported casualties and crews are on standby to assist emergency service partners.”
ScotRail has warned that all lines running through nearby Dalmuir railway station have been closed due to the incident.

The incident comes following the “unexplained” death of a 58-year-old man in the Dunswin Avenue area on 17 October.

However, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: “There is nothing to suggest that the item found in the property is linked to the ongoing investigation into the death of a 58-year-old man.”
