t’s only officially been fall for about three weeks, but the state saw its first snowfall this week.
According to the magazine Powder, Saddleback Mountain saw its first significant snowfall on Monday morning. While the snow isn’t sticking around, it’s a precursor to the conditions we’ll be seeing later this year.
A Facebook post from Sugarloaf Mountain also showed that snow had fallen on Monday morning.
The snow came with a wet and cold weather system that is moving across the state, bringing rain to most of Maine. At this point, snowfall is expected to remain within higher altitudes, and it’s unlikely that snow will accumulate or stick around too long.
However, temperatures will stay cool across the state through the week, with chilly overnight temperatures dipping into the mid-30s according to the National Weather Service. Partly cloudy skies, with daytime temperatures in the mid-50s are expected through the rest of the week.
