A man who died after an explosion ripped through a block of flats in Clackmannanshire has been named as 50-year-old Graham Green.

The explosion and fire occurred in Alloa’s Kellie Place at around 6pm on Sunday.

Mr Green, who was inside the property at the time, was killed in the blast.

Police Scotland said formal identification is yet to take place, but Mr Green’s family have been informed.

Three other people from the same building – a 72-year-old man, a 19-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman – were taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries.

In an update on Friday, the force said Mr Green’s death is currently being treated as “unexplained” as officers continue to investigate.

Chief Inspector Kat Thompson said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Graham and all those affected at this difficult time.

“Our enquiries, alongside partner agencies, to establish the full circumstances of what happened remain ongoing.

“A police presence will remain in the area and I would like to thank the local community for their understanding and support.”

Part of the roof of the property was ripped off by the blast and a gaping hole was left in the first floor of the building.

Police Scotland closed a number of surrounding roads as they responded to the explosion, with Alloa Town Hall opened as a respite centre for evacuated residents.

Clackmannanshire Council said all those affected managed to find shelter with friends and family overnight as it vowed to assist all those who could not return to their homes.
