BELFAST — Belfast Maskers is excited to announce the upcoming production of “Months on End”, a heartwarming and humorous play by award-winning playwright Craig Pospisil. This ensemble-driven piece will be performed at the Basil Burwell Community Theater, 17 Court Street, opening on Oct. 11. The play spans an entire year in the lives of 20 interconnected people, exploring the dynamics of relationships as they evolve through the seasons. Each month unveils new milestones — birthdays, weddings, breakups, reconciliations, and everything in between — offering a glimpse into the joys, heartaches, and complexities that define human connection.

At its core, “Months on End” is about how we navigate time, change, and the unpredictable nature of life. The play examines universal themes such as the challenges of love, the trials of friendship, the strain of career aspirations, and the inevitable passage of time. Audiences will relate to the timeless struggle of balancing personal desires with the needs of loved ones, as well as the bittersweet moments of laughter and loss that punctuate our lives. A Kennedy Center honoree, Pospisil is a celebrated American playwright whose works have been produced across the United States and internationally as well as in TV and film. Known for his sharp wit and his ability to blend comedy with thoughtful observations on life, Pospisil has created a body of work that is both entertaining and insightful. “Months on End” premiered in 2003 and has been widely praised for its clever structure and its exploration of the passage of time in relationships. Pospisil’s finely tuned dialogue and humor paints a relatable portrait of how we move through the seasons of our lives — often together, sometimes apart — but always intertwined.

Director Greg Marsanskis describes the play as a romantic comedy, a sitcom, and a domestic drama all rolled together as one. “The characters are easy to relate to,” said Marsanskis. “The drama is approachable. It is the story of how we cope with the complexities of life that we all experience every day, using laughter and tears.” Marsanskis oversaw casting and put together a talented ensemble of local actors to bring depth to the diverse array of personalities that populate the world of “Months on End”. The cast consists of Brandon Muggy, Cassidy Small, Audra Martin, Stefan Durham, Nate Marx, Jared Nickerson, Julia Clapp, Abby Boucher, Robyn Tarantino, and Francis A. King. From the frantic chaos of wedding planning to the quiet solitude of personal reflection, the characters’ journeys will resonate with audiences of all ages.

A retired carpenter, Greg designed and built a versatile and minimalist set for the show and is also designing the lights. In the playwright’s notes, Pospisil noted, “I want to stress that I don’t intend, expect or even want fully realized sets for each scene. The sets for the scenes should be minimal; suggested rather than realistic. Use the bare minimum needed to convey the sense of place.” Marsanskis hopes his set is true to the playwright’s wishes, saying, “I truly believe you come to the theater to see the acting, everything else is just providing the atmosphere.” Joining him on the creative team for the production are Cassidy Small and Julia Olson as producers, Latricia Saucier as stage manager, Sound Designer Jay Rosenberg, and costumers Sandy Hall and Kelly Gubbels.

The Belfast Maskers, a nonprofit community theater, has been a cultural cornerstone in the Midcoast Maine region for over three decades. Tickets are on sale on their website, http://www.BelfastMaskers.com now. General admission seating is $18 and there is a $3 discount for students and seniors. There is a Preview Night performance, with $10 tickets available to the public, on Thursday, Oct. 10. Belfast Maskers promises “Months on End” to be a perfect play for theatergoers who enjoy stories about human connection, filled with humor, heart, and a touch of nostalgia.
