The Bangor Public Library unveiled new cards during a push to get more people to sign up for free memberships.
Three new cards were announced Wednesday as part of September’s Library Card Sign-Up Month. They replace the cards designed in the early 2000s, Director of Development and Public Relations Shavaun Rigler said. A committee of library staff did most of the design work for the new cards.
The adult key tag features green pine trees and a sketch of the library’s glass dome. A new full-size card for adults showcases the front of the library with the steps leading up to large wooden doors. There is also a new, multi-color card for kids.
A Bangor library card is free for Maine residents signing up for a new account, Rigler said.
There is a $1 charge for people with existing accounts who want to switch to a new card. A new card does change a person’s library number, which means they will lose their place in line for books on hold.
