Singer Danielle Moore – who fronted the electronic band Crazy P – has died aged 52 in “sudden and tragic circumstances”, the group has confirmed.

While her bandmates did not share her cause of death, they said they were “devastated” and would now “need time to process that this has happened”.

Sharing a black and white picture of the star on social media, they wrote: “We are devastated to announce the unbelievable and shocking news that our beautiful Danielle Moore has died in sudden and tragic circumstances.

“This happened on Friday afternoon August 30th. We cannot believe the news ourselves and we know it will be the same for all of you.

“She gave us so much and we love her so much. Our hearts are broken.

“We need time to process that this has happened. Danielle lived a life driven by love compassion community and music. She lived the biggest of lives.

“We will miss her with all our hearts X.”

Fans of her work were quick to pay tribute, with Irish singer-songwriter Roisin Murphy calling her “brilliant” and “one of the most beautiful souls”.

Sharing her admiration for Moore, Murphy wrote in a post on Instagram: “One of the best in music, an amazing person and an amazing singer, performer and songwriter. I know there will be a great sense of loss and mourning across our community.

“She touched everybody she met with light and love. Sending sincerest condolences to those friends and family closest to her.”

DJ Lea Lisa wrote: “She was a true inspiration, an outstanding DJ and a magnificent singer. I’m shocked and the world of electronic music has lost a great artist. Love & support, We will miss you…”

Fashion lecturer Avarni wrote: “I’m so so so sorry guys. Danielle was a complete ball of light and love .. a force to be reckoned with and one of the most beautiful humans I’ve ever known.

“Such a huge, mammoth loss. Sending love to you both and thoughts are with her family.”

The House Gospel Choir wrote: “This is such shocking & sad news. Heartbroken for the whole team. Rest In Perfect Peace Danielle.”

Electronic artist Tom Middleton paid tribute, commenting: “Heartbreaking news. Sending deepest condolences and love to all. Dani was a beacon of light and joy on and off stage with an angelic voice and contagious energy. And as many have said, kind, funny and so, so talented.”

Crazy P was put together by Nottingham University alumni Chris Todd and Jim Baron in 1995, with Moore joining in 2002 along with bassist Tim Davies and percussionist Mav Kendricks.

The electro band released eight studio albums, also incorporating soul music and house in their work.

The band still actively toured around the world, with their official Facebook page showing gigs this summer in Mexico, Croatia, Spain and Portugal, as well as Glastonbury and other performances around the UK.

Crazy P had been due to play the Forwards Festival in Bristol at the weekend, pulling out of their Sunday slot due to the tragic news of Moore’s death.

Two of the band’s last performances were over the August bank holiday weekend. They drew a large crowd at Lincolnshire festival Lost Village on Sunday 25 August, before performing again at Etherow Country Park near Stockport the following day.

On the announcement of her death, the festival shared a photo of Moore taken behind the decks at the event, writing: “This picture was taken at Moovin festival only a week ago. Rest in Peace Danielle”.
