Teanne Ewings, a breakout track star from Houlton, set a new record at the Beach to Beacon’s High School Mile.
Ewings’ final gun time of 5:20.1 beat the race record of 5:23.17 set by Ruth White of Orono in 2022.
White, who graduated this past year, won the Beach to Beacon 10K race, with a gun time of 34:56.
White and Ewings have been familiar competitors, fighting to secure the winning spot throughout both the cross country and outdoor track seasons.
Last winter, Ewings elbowed her way into national standings after running a 10:28.4 2-mile race. That was enough to break her own personal record by 16 seconds, break the state record and run the fastest national time at that point in the season.
At White’s last in-conference high school competition, she finished second to Ewing in the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter races. White is planning to attend the University of New Hampshire in the spring.
Coming in first for the men’s division of the high school mile was Henri Rivard, who put up a 4:42.7 finish. Charlie Jacques followed Rivard closely, finishing 9/10ths of a second later with a time of 4:43.6.
Gebresilase Tadese Worku of Ethiopia took the top male spot in the 10k with a time of 28:12, while Faith Chepkoech won the women’s 10K race with an unofficial time of 32:05.
The first male finisher from Maine was Matt Rand, coming in with a time of 30:40.
