QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Carrying a human being off a trail requires a ton of strength. Generally speaking, in an ideal situation, we would have between 12-18 people supporting the rescue effort per mile we need to carry the injured individual.”

— Amanda Pollock, spokesperson for Acadia National Park, after simultaneous leg injuries to two hikers tied up rescue crews on Mount Desert Island on Thursday.

TODAY’S TOP MAINE STORIES

A lack of road markings is making driving chaotic in Bangor. The city has plans to repaint the lines, but temporary markings continue to confuse drivers.

A new documentary explores what it’s like to be homeless in Bangor. “Building Hope,” produced by Sedgwick-based media company Kane-Lewis Productions, premieres in Castine today.

Four numbers from a new report show how “out of reach” affordable housing is for Mainers. And here’s a bonus fraction: Nearly half of all renting households are at risk of being burdened by the cost of housing.

National political parties set aside millions for ads ahead of Maine’s 2nd District showdown. The election between Democratic U.S. Rep. Jared Golden and Republican state Rep. Austin Theriault is considered to be among roughly 30 races to decide which party controls the U.S. House of Representatives.

A new owner and a revolving loan saved a Fort Kent bookstore. At a time when local bookstores are becoming increasingly rare, Bogan Books is getting a new lease on life.
