The fastest results, the sharpest analysis and an award-winning line up – as the general election unfolds, Sky News will bring you the full story, first.

Whether you want to settle down in front of the TV, stay in the know on the move, or keep updated from work, we’ll have live coverage across our platforms to bring you everything as soon as it happens.

We’ll have expert commentary and analysis to help you digest key developments, kicking off with the exit poll and running through the weekend.

What’s happening – and when?

Thursday

Polls are open from 7am until 10pm on 4 July – and during that time, you won’t see any coverage of politics or policy due to strict reporting restrictions.

But Sky News will still be bringing you colourful snapshots of polling day, from leaders casting their ballots to the important business of dogs at polling stations.

Get minute-by-minute updates from the campaign trail as the election approaches

10pm Thursday into Friday

As soon as the polls close at 10pm, Sky News will bring you the exit poll – your first insight into how the general election results could play out.

Chief presenter Kay Burley will anchor Election Night Live, the overnight results programme, from a 360-degree immersive studio normally used by Sky Sports shows like Monday Night Football.

Please use Chrome browser for a more accessible video player

Andy Burnham, the mayor of Greater Manchester and a former Labour MP, will provide guest analysis alongside the former leader of the Scottish Conservatives and star of Electoral Dysfunction, Baroness Ruth Davidson.

Burley, who will be covering her 12th UK general election, will also be joined by Sky News’ award-winning political editor Beth Rigby, the presenter of our Sunday politics show Sir Trevor Phillips, and our economics and data editor Ed Conway.

Conway will be examining live election data on the massive canvas of the studio’s LED floor and walls, providing pioneering analysis of the key facts and figures.

The Sky News team will take viewers through the key results on the night, making use of this new technology to explain the polling data from every angle, offering viewers the full story.

Plus, the exit poll and winner of the race for Number 10 will be revealed with the help of an immersive to-scale augmented reality Downing Street.

Elections analyst Professor Michael Thrasher will also be on hand to offer statistical analysis of the election for Sky News – as he has at every election since 1989.

Friday

From 7am on the morning after the nationwide voting, lead politics presenter Sophy Ridge, host of Sky’s Politics Hub programme, will be live from Westminster bringing viewers every development as the election result is absorbed and plans for the next government are made.

Ridge will be joined by deputy political editor Sam Coates and Sky News contributor Adam Boulton across what will be a historic day, as the nation awaits the next prime minister.

Sky News’ audience will be the first to find out what’s really happening – with our reporters and cameras at election counts up and down the UK revealing the dramatic results and hearing from candidates from across the political spectrum.

We’ll have an early morning episode of Politics at Jack and Sam’s and special editions of Electoral Dysfunction and the Sky News Daily podcast.
