The world’s tallest dog has died – just weeks after being awarded the Guinness World Record.
Kevin, a three-year-old Great Dane from West Des Moines, Iowa, died this week after undergoing surgery for an illness.
He measured 0.97m (3ft 2in) from his feet to his withers (the ridge between the shoulder blades) but was about 7ft when on his hind legs.
In mid-June, Kevin was awarded the Guinness World Record for his record height.
His owner Tracy Wolfe said her whole family, which includes her two children, aged 10 and 12, were “devastated” by the loss.
In a statement to Guinness World Records, she paid tribute to Kevin saying: “He was just the best giant boy!
“We are so glad that he was able to break the record and have that light on him.
“He absolutely adored the attention. I wish these giant breeds, and all dogs, could live longer than they do. It’s never enough time.”
Kevin was still a bit shorter than the tallest dog ever – another Great Dane, named Zeus, who measured 1.118m (3ft 8in) and died in 2014 aged five.

A spokesperson for Guinness World Records said: “We are deeply saddened to learn that Kevin suddenly passed away after unexpected health complications.
“Tracy and the team at the vet clinic she works in did everything they could to save Kevin after he became ill.
“Our thoughts and support are with the Wolfe family as they navigate this difficult time.”

Upon being named the world’s tallest dog, Mrs Wolfe said of Kevin his favourite activity was “probably taking naps”.
“Holding the couch down is his favourite pastime, I think,” she added.
Despite his impressive stature, Kevin was, quite comically, “terrified” of the vacuum cleaner.
“He won’t let it come within six feet of him. He will jump and run to get away from it,” Mrs Wolfe said.
