A woman and a 4-year-old boy were badly injured Wednesday night when their vehicle crashed into a cluster of trees in Woolwich, according to the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office.
Chloe Monsen, 31, of Bath was driving a 2007 Toyota RAV4 north on Route 127, near 1044 Middle Rd., when it veered off the road and hit the trees head-on at around 7 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office is still investigating the crash and said alcohol appeared to have played a role in it.
Monsen, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time, had to be extricated from the wreckage and was flown by Life Flight helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland for serious injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.
The boy in the vehicle also suffered bad injuries, but was secured in a child-safety seat that prevented them from being worse. He was taken by ambulance to Maine Med.
Route 127 was closed for about two hours after the crash to allow officials to process and clean up the scene.
