WESTBROOK – With the help of Northeast Credit Union, soon to be Lighthouse Credit Union, Discover Downtown Westbrook and the City of Westbrook are continuing to create a space worth visiting by offering programs, increasing access to local businesses, and encouraging community.
Westbrook Common is a placemaking initiative, a people-centered approach to creating spaces for the health and well-being of our community. The goal is to continue to activate Westbrook Common to create a vibrant, memorable gathering space and provide events and activities that make people feel both safe and a sense of belonging. Westbrook Common is the second placemaking initiative in Maine, and is modeled after successful projects in Congress Square Park in Portland and Bryant Park in New York City.
Westbrook Common is in its second year of programming. Events have begun and are free to attend with the support of Northeast Credit Union beginning in May and continuing through October. Listed below are our live music events, fitness, dance and biking, promotion of the arts, storytime and free summer lunches for kids!
Join us select Saturdays from 4-6 p.m. for live music. Check out Afro Jazz Machine on June 15. Jeezum Crow Band to debut on Saturday June 29! Plus a special performance from Hildaland on Friday, June 21.
Several fitness and dance events are scheduled in Westbrook Common for June including:
● Zumba on Sunday, June 16 at 10 a.m.
● Salsa with DJ A’vell on Sunday, June 16 at 7 p.m.
Guided and themed rides are scheduled on Sundays throughout the summer.
Westbrook Common loves to celebrate our local art and artists. Join us for:
● Monoprinting class with Patrick Corey & Friends of the Presumpscot River on June 13 at 5 p.m.
● Figure Drawing meetup Friday, June 14 from 5-8 p.m.
● Our first Queer Maker’s Market to celebrate Pride Month on Saturday, June 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
● Themed artisan markets on select Saturdays through October
We have events focused specifically for children too! Join us for:
● Free Summer Lunches Program for kids from Monday, June 24 to Aug. 9
● Storytime with the Walker Memorial Library every Friday at 10:30 a.m. starting June 21 through August 16

This summer plan to Meet Us at the Common! Bring your friends. Attend live music and dancing, connect with local artists, or join us on your lunch break. Stop by for a stroll or dinner in the evening to see the cafe lights transform the space.
