On June 6, we recognize the heroism of the Allied Forces on the beaches of France on D-Day, part of “The Greatest Generation.”
Contrast that operation with the misguided mob that (having been incited by President Donald Trump) invaded our Capitol in what I believe was a treasonous attempt to prevent our traditional, peaceful transfer of power on Jan. 6, 2021. Thank goodness for the courage of the Capitol Police in preventing a complete collapse of the duties of Congress that day. Trump, hiding in the White House, provided no leadership and waited several hours to call off his mob.
Thank goodness also for the courage of Vice President Mike Pence and his determination to uphold his constitutional duty, in spite of presidential pressure and a “hang Mike Pence” mob chant. After four years of serving Trump loyally, it obviously was a one-way street.
Pearl Harbor (Dec. 7, 1941) has been described as a “Day of Infamy,” because of the attack by an enemy from without. Another such day was Sept. 11, 2001, also by an enemy from without. Unfortunately, Jan. 6, 2021, is now another “Day of Infamy,” unbelievably by an “enemy from within.”
