A five-year-old boy has been treated in hospital for head injuries after being bitten by an XL bully-type dog in Hull, police said.
The boy was bitten at a property on Brazil Street at around 11:45am on Monday, the force added.
Humberside Police said the animal has been seized while enquiries are ongoing.
The severity of the boy’s injuries and whether or not he is still in hospital has not yet been reported.
Detective Chief Inspector Allison Sweeting said on Tuesday: “We are working closely with the boy’s family and the owner of the dog to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“At this stage, the breed of dog is believed to be an XL bully type and it has been seized as part of our enquiries.”
The attack comes days after a woman was killed by two registered XL bully dogs in east London.
She is believed to have died in the first fatal attack by the breed since new laws around ownership of the animals were introduced.

In February, it has been a criminal offence to own the XL bully breed in England and Wales without an exemption certificate.
Anyone who owns one of the dogs must have had the animal neutered, have it microchipped and keep it muzzled and on a lead in public, among other restrictions.
The government moveD to ban XL bullys followed a series of attacks on people and other dogs.
