Kellogg’s has recalled boxes of its chocolate flavour Kellogg’s Corn Flakes as they may contain hard lumps of food which have formed in the product.

The company said the lumps have made “the product unsafe to eat”.

Kellanova, the company that makes Kellogg’s cereals in Europe, said the recall was voluntarily issued after complaints from customers “that a small proportion of boxes could contain hard lumps of cereal that do not break down when eaten with milk”.

The company said there was a “minimal risk” but the hard lumps could “potentially cause dental damage or be a choking hazard”.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has advised shoppers to dispose of the 450g packs that have a best before date of 6 December 2024 to 28 April 2025.

The FSA website warns customers: “If you have bought the product do not eat it.”

Kellanova said the boxes of cereal affected have been on sale since January and are available to buy in Tesco, One Stop, Londis, Budgens, Booker Premier stores and Booker Cash & Carry outlets.

A spokesperson for the company – which also makes Pringles and Special K – said: “Making good food which is safe and high quality is our number one priority at Kellanova.

“Clusters of cereal forming during production can be a normal occurrence and these usually break up when eaten or placed in milk.

“But, when we spotted that hard lumps of cereal were forming in a very small amount of our new Kellogg’s Corn Flakes Chocolate Flavour cereal, we took the decision to recall all products.”

They said although the risk of injury is small, the company was “not willing to compromise on quality or safety”.

“We are asking customers and consumers to dispose of any product they have and contact us for a refund,” the spokesperson said.

“We have also let the regulator know about this issue and are working with them on next steps.”

The product recall does not include Kellogg’s Corn Flakes Original cereal or any other Kellogg’s product.
