The restaurant and bar at Bangor Municipal Golf Course has a new name, menu and operator as of this week.
Birdies opened on May 7, operated by Bob Cutler, owner of Novio’s Bistro in downtown Bangor, a fine dining restaurant on Hammond Street, and Matt Robinson, a longtime local restaurant manager.
Birdies takes the place of the restaurant formerly operated by Bangor sports bar Hero’s, which ran the food and bar service at the course for nine seasons, from 2015 to 2023. Hero’s still has its standalone restaurants on Washington Street in Bangor and on Route 2 in Hermon.
While Birdies will still offer pub food classics for a post-game meal, like burgers, fish and chips, nachos and wings, the menu will expand to include new items like a poke bowl, a mezze platter and a caprese salad. It’s open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week.
Robinson and Cutler worked together at Cutler’s former restaurant in Orono, The Family Dog, and have long wanted to run the restaurant at Bangor Muni. Robinson, who previously was general manager of Bissell Brothers Three Rivers in Milo, said he is also an avid golfer.
