Class A North champions and top-seeded Brewer lost its lead in the third quarter but a Cameron Hughes layup with 2.7 seconds left gave the Witches a 42-41 win over Falmouth at the Augusta Civic Center on Friday night.
Saunders hit a pull-up jumper off an assist from Flagg to tie the game at 36-36 with five minutes to play in the game.
Falmouth’s Paul Dilworth hit two free throws a minute later to take back the lead.
With 3:20 left, Flagg took a charge to stop a Falmouth (17-5) possession, but Hughes earned a player control foul on the other end and Falmouth took back possession with 2:48 left.
After Saunders missed a 3-point attempt, Dilworth hit two free throws with 1:16 to play to give the Clippers a 40-36 lead.
Ryder Goodwin hit two free throws with 64 seconds left to pull the Witches (21-1) within two, but Dilworth was fouled quickly and went back to the line and hit a free throw to make it a three-point game.
Goodwin hit a layup with 20 seconds left but then was called for a blocking foul with 16 seconds left, sending the Clippers to the line.
