A Bored Ape NFT has just been sold for 347 Ether tokens, equivalent to around $1.4 million. The Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) is an exclusive community comprised of holders of the ape, and other mutant themed NFT collections on the Ethereum blockchain.

The Bored Ape collection comprises 10,000 generative art pieces, and these are the only ones that will ever be in existence.

Bored Ape NFT sold for $1.4M

The value of apes in the BAYC collection is determined by the attributed. Some of the most unique attributes of these apes include laser eyes, golden fur and a crown.

The NFT in question was sold by John Knopf, an Emmy nominated photographer, on December 13. He stated that he had initially bought the ape with a laser eyes trait for 0.08 ETH.

Knopf managed to rake in profits of $1.39 million with his recent sale going by the current Ether prices.

In his excitement, Knopf announced this sale on Twitter, stating, “I bought my ape for .08 on minting night and just sold it for 347 ETH. I am at a loss for words right now. I am crying so much. Thank you @BoredApeYC for completely changing my life and everyone in the community!!!! And thank you @_jeffnicholas, for telling us all to buy them.”

Bored Apes are some of the most iconic NFT collections. The BAYC has become even more popular by attracting the attention of celebrities such as Post Malone, Dez Bryant, Stephen Curry, etc.

A major issue with the purchase

The buyer of this NFT was Deepak Thapliyal from Chain Protocol. Thapliyal made a detailed summary of how the purchase took place. He stated that he had wanted to buy an ape NFT for a long time, but he wanted to make sure he was buying the right one.

When he found Knopf’s ape NFT online, he sent 655 ETH into his wallet in preparation for buying the NFT. However, he made a mistake by sending an additional 230 ETH, which was not part of the asking price.

“After I placed my original bid, I had to move 230 ETH to another wallet in mobile. I _ thought _ the copy button for the address I was sending too was pressed properly.”

Thapliyal contacted Knopf to alert him of the error and to agree on the buying price, after which Knopf was to return the extra ETH. After agreeing on the price, Knopf refunded 230 ETH to Thapliyal.
